Street Photography | Las Vegas First Friday March 2012

I headed down this Friday to Las Vegas’ Downtown First Friday, an arts festival that happens every first Friday of each month. I had been to many First Fridays and this months was the largest ever so far. Streets were packed and the partying was happening.

Now this First Friday was in collaboration with the Burning Man Festival, which happens in Northern Nevada desert, and after sunset the Burning Man Opera performed and a wooden sculpture named Lucky Lady Lucy would be lite up later. I be honest though… I believe they were completely under-prepared for the turnout even though the newspapers were estimating 1,000+ additional people then a normal First Friday. The opera/music part had poor sound that you couldn’t hear about 15 rows back and most of the performances happened ground level making only the first 3 rows to see anything. Also, the show ran so long… I skipped out 25mins after the scheduled burn to make my dinner reservations (it don’t go off until 1 hour after). Good idea… good turnout… poorly executed. Next time… put it on a platform/stage so more than the 100 people in the front could enjoy.

The more entertaining part was the car show on 3rd Street. An amazing collection of classic cars with iconic backdrops… and a lot more fun and excitement. Also, I found some new amazing places on 3rd Street I had never visited before.

Also the food truck had an amazing turnout. The meatball sub I got from Chi Town Hustler food truck was amazing and the people I was with enjoyed what they had picked up from other food trucks. An enjoyable night.
